A state variable in a derived contract is shadowing a similarly named component in a parent contract. This means that when the derived contract accesses the state variable by its name, it will use the one defined in the derived contract, not the one in the parent contract. This will reduce the readability and maintainability of the code.t Variable `_totalSupply` in `CheckDot` shadows the variable `_totalSupply` in `ERC20`. ```solidity=11 uint256 private _totalSupply = 10000000 * (10 ** uint256(_decimals)); ``` ```solidity=41 uint256 private _totalSupply; ```
The linked variables assigned in the constructor can be declared as `immutable`. Immutable state variables can be assigned during contract creation but will remain constant throughout the lifetime of a deployed contract. A big advantage of immutable variables is that reading them is significantly cheaper than reading from regular state variables since they will not be stored in storage.
