During the testing, CertiK noted that the `demo-www.marsprotocol.com` web application accepts incoming traffic over port 80, using the plaintext HTTP protocol, the website not redirecting the user to an encrypted channel, such as HTTPS over port 443. Furthermore, it was noted that the 13.212.107.24 IP, containing multiple important components of the production environment also allow incoming connections over plaintext HTTP, port 80.

HighWeak or default credentialsMarsProtocol-Pentest · CertiK · 16 Jan 2023Fixed

An authentication mechanism is only as strong as its credentials. For this reason, it is important to require users to have strong passwords. Lack of password complexity significantly reduces the search space when trying to guess the user's passwords, making brute-force attacks easier. The application doesn’t have a password policy in place to enforce users to use a strong password. During the testing of MarsProtocol's demo web application, it was noted that the administration platform's API can be accessed by sending HTTP requests to the same `Host` as the consumer website. The testing of the authentication revealed the fact that the admin user has a low-complexity password, which could be easily guessed by an attacker. Furthermore, CertiK noted that the `XXL-JOB` platform, accessible via `http://13.214.148.118:18099/xxl-job-admin/`, uses the default credentials for authentication using the admin account.

During the source code review of the tested web applications, it was noted that the various components of the environment are accessible from any originating public IP. Furthermore, it was noted that multiple API servers can be accessed using the same `Host` value, the routing not being segregated for the multiple services.
